A recent study published in Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine has shown that aromatherapy massage helps lower blood pressure and improve sleep quality. 3 groups of middle-aged women were evaluated. The experimental group had aromatherapy massage (i.e. with real essential oils) once a week and body cream daily. The placebo group had massage with fragrance oil (i.e. synthetic fragrance) once a week and body cream daily. The control group had no treatment. The results were encouraging for aromatherapists: There was significant difference between experimental group and placebo groups, with experimental group subjects reporting lower blood pressure and improved sleep quality.
