A new study from March 2013 showed that self-massage to the quadriceps helps reduce pain and stiffness and helps improve range of motion in knees affected by osteoarthritis. Subjects were divided into two groups: one that was taught the massage protocol and the other was a control group. Over 12 weeks, the self-massage group showed statistically significant improvements. No improvements were seen in the control group.
